Jane Fonda Defends Mark Ruffalo Against Antisemitism Claims from Paramount

By Editor • August 26, 2026 • 1 min read

Jane Fonda has come forward to support Mark Ruffalo after Paramount Pictures labeled his comments as 'antisemitic.' Ruffalo recently criticized the ties between Larry Ellison and Israel, particularly regarding the planned merger with Warner Bros.

In her statement, shared via the Committee for the 1st Amendment's Instagram, Fonda expressed her concern over the misuse of antisemitism accusations to suppress valid political discourse. 'Antisemitism is real and dangerous,' she noted, emphasizing that such charges should not be weaponized against critics like Ruffalo, a committed advocate for democracy.

Fonda firmly stated, 'Mark Ruffalo has a First Amendment right to speak out about politics, powerful corporations and this dangerous merger.' She argued that calling his remarks antisemitic is a tactic to undermine legitimate concerns regarding corporate power in media.

Ruffalo's initial comments came after he shared a clip where Paramount board member Safra Catz discussed controversial technologies linked to the Israeli military. In response, a Paramount spokesperson condemned the invocation of antisemitism in business disputes, asserting that it diminishes the gravity of real suffering.

Fonda’s defense of Ruffalo has garnered additional support, including from fellow actor Hannah Einbinder, who criticized the notion that pointing out the Ellisons' connections to Israel is inherently antisemitic.
