Mark Ruffalo Criticized for Antisemitic Tropes by Jewish Advocacy Groups

By Editor • August 23, 2026 • 1 min read

Mark Ruffalo is facing backlash from two prominent Jewish organizations for allegedly promoting antisemitic messaging. The Simon Wiesenthal Center and Creative Community for Peace have condemned the actor's recent rhetoric.

In a statement, Jim Berk, CEO of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, emphasized the importance of recognizing when legitimate discourse crosses into antisemitism. He praised Paramount for its clear condemnation of Ruffalo’s comments, which he described as a necessary stand against minimized and rationalized antisemitism.

The controversy erupted after Ruffalo shared a video featuring Safra Catz, a Jewish board member at Paramount Skydance, alongside comments that critics interpreted as invoking antisemitic tropes in relation to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Paramount expressed its concern over such messaging, labeling it as troubling amidst ongoing business negotiations.

Ruffalo, well-known for his role as the Hulk in Marvel films, has been vocal against the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount and has accused Larry Ellison, the tech billionaire backing the deal, of oligarchic behavior. In response to the backlash, Ruffalo took to social media to call the accusations of antisemitism “appalling and fundamentally dishonest.”

However, both Berk and CCFP’s Ari Engel reiterated that such rhetoric, when it distorts reality, can contribute to the resurgence of antisemitic sentiments globally.
