Japan Faces Heatstroke Crisis with Over 41,000 Hospitalizations

In July, Japan experienced a surge in heatstroke cases, with 41,174 individuals hospitalized due to extreme temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. This marks one of the highest monthly totals since 2008, trailing only behind 2018 and 2024.
Of those affected, over 60%, or 24,769, were seniors aged 65 and older, highlighting the vulnerability of this demographic. Tragically, 79 fatalities were reported. Authorities are urging citizens to stay hydrated, utilize air conditioning, and seek out designated cooling shelters.
