In a tragic escalation of violence, Russian drone strikes targeted a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals and injuring around 130 others, including 23 children. The attack, which occurred in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown, involved a notorious 'double-tap' strategy, where a second drone struck the site about half an hour after the first.
President Zelensky condemned the assault as "absolutely cynical and despicable," emphasizing that such attacks aim to harm emergency responders arriving at the scene. He characterized the strikes as acts of terrorism and called for global accountability against Russia’s continued aggression.
Alongside the devastation in Kryvyi Rih, another strike in the Mykolaiv region claimed four more lives, including three minors. This uptick in aerial attacks comes as the conflict nears its 4.5-year mark, with recent days witnessing significant casualties, including 17 fatalities from a ballistic missile strike in Kyiv.
