Luke Gosling Faces New Bail Breach Charges Amid Assault Allegations

By Editor • August 25, 2026 • 1 min read

Federal MP Luke Gosling has found himself in hot water once again, as Northern Territory Police have charged him with breaching his bail conditions. This allegation comes on the heels of serious charges related to the alleged assault of NT Administrator David Connolly.

The breach reportedly occurred on August 14, just weeks after Gosling was granted bail following two assault charges that stemmed from incidents at a community event in Darwin. His bail conditions, set on July 31, explicitly prohibited him from coming within 50 metres of Government House, where Connolly resides.

Gosling, who has served as the member for Solomon since 2016 and holds the position of special envoy for defence and veterans' affairs, is contesting the assault allegations, which involve two separate incidents occurring roughly 30 minutes apart. His lawyer previously described how the first incident left Connolly unaware of Gosling's approach, while the second involved an alleged physical confrontation.

Following the latest charges, calls for Gosling to step down from his political roles have intensified. Federal Opposition Leader Angus Taylor emphasized that the Prime Minister must act decisively, stating, 'The case for the prime minister to act is even stronger.' Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has remained reticent, choosing not to comment on Gosling's political future as legal proceedings unfold.
