This year's Video Music Awards are set to showcase the talents of pop icons Madonna and Taylor Swift, who lead the nominations with 11 and 9 nods, respectively. Both artists are contenders for the coveted Video of the Year award, with Madonna’s "Confessions II - The Film" and Swift’s "The Fate of Ophelia" vying for the top honor, alongside entries from Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, and others.

With a total of five nominations each, PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson have also made a significant impact this year, including recognition for their collaborative remix "Stateside." Other notable nominees include Geese, who earned a single nod for "Taxes" in the Best Alternative category.

In a shift from previous ceremonies, this year's VMAs will not include several categories such as Best Rock, Best Afrobeats, and Best Group. The event is scheduled to take place live from Los Angeles on September 27, 2026, airing on CBS and Paramount+, as well as MTV, the awards' original home. The announcement of this year's host and the recipient of the Video Vanguard Award is still pending.

The nominations span various genres and highlight a diverse range of artists. Categories like Artist of the Year feature big names including Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, and Morgan Wallen. The Song of the Year category sees competition from BTS and Olivia Dean, among others. Emerging talents will be recognized in the Best New Artist category, presented by The General Insurance, with nominees like Bella Kay and Sienna Spiro.

Fans can look forward to a vibrant ceremony that will celebrate both legendary and emerging artists across multiple genres, including pop, hip-hop, and R&B, among others. The anticipation for the 2026 VMAs continues to build as viewers await the final announcements and the live show.
