Mark McVeigh Steps Up as Essendon’s New Coach

Mark McVeigh has officially been appointed as the senior coach of Essendon, effective immediately, as announced by the club on Monday. The decision comes after a disappointing season, culminating in a narrow 10-point loss to Port Adelaide, marking the team’s worst performance in its history.

Club president Andrew Welsh confirmed that the board reached a unanimous decision, highlighting McVeigh's credentials and vision for the club. "Mark was clearly the best candidate for what this role demands," Welsh stated. McVeigh, previously an assistant coach at Sydney and a former Essendon player, triumphed over notable contenders like James Hird, Jaymie Graham, and Murray Davis.

McVeigh, who played 232 games for Essendon and returns on a three-year contract, emphasized a forward-looking approach, stating, "We’re not looking backwards; we’re building the next great era of this football club."
