Her family announced that she died on Saturday in Los Angeles after a brief illness. Fabares is survived by her husband, Mike Farrell, known for his role in M*A*S*H, whom she married in 1984.

The family expressed their deep sorrow, stating, "To her family and friends, Shelley was a source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort." They remembered her as a devoted wife, cherished stepmother, and dear friend who had a profound impact on those around her.

Playing the wholesome daughter of Donna Stone, portrayed by Reed, she captured the hearts of audiences during the show’s eight-season run. The series not only showcased her acting talent but also helped launch her musical career, leading to her hit single “Johnny Angel,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1962.

A versatile actress, she also took on the role of Francine Webster on the original One Day at a Time, where she played a character that contrasted sharply with her typical good-girl image. Fabares characterized her role as a balancing act between her career and her personal life, stating, "We’re all going through the same things. I have a wonderful relationship with my husband, but I’m still a career woman."

Born Michele Ann Marie Fabares in Santa Monica on January 19, 1944, she began modeling at the tender age of three, which opened doors to television appearances. By nine, she was already in the spotlight, performing with Frank Sinatra on an NBC special.

Throughout her career, Fabares enjoyed numerous guest appearances on popular shows, including Mork & Mindy and Love, American Style. After a health scare that required a liver transplant in 2000, she continued to inspire many with her resilience and talent.

Fabares and Farrell's journey together began in 1970 when she appeared on his show, The Interns. Their relationship blossomed years later, and they married at the home of her aunt, actress Nannette Fabray. Their bond was characterized by mutual support and humor, with Farrell noting how Fabares brought joy into his life.
