Microsoft Unifies AI Under One Copilot App

In a move to simplify its AI offerings, Microsoft has announced the merger of its two Copilot applications into a single comprehensive app. This change aims to eliminate confusion surrounding the separate functionalities of Copilot for consumers and Microsoft 365 Copilot for professional users.

The new unified app will serve as the go-to platform for all users, whether they utilize it for personal tasks akin to ChatGPT or for work-related functions in Word and Excel. This consolidation is especially beneficial for those who previously needed to toggle between the two versions.

While existing Microsoft 365 Copilot users will experience minor navigational updates, personal users can expect more significant changes. The transition will occur automatically for desktop users, and mobile users can update their app to access the new features. Notably, all previous chats and content will migrate to the new platform, linked to their respective accounts.

However, not all features will make the transition. Microsoft will discontinue three legacy functions—Podcasts, Deep Research, and Group Chat messages—as of August 18. Users are advised to export any important content from these features before the deadline, as they will become unusable afterward.

With this strategic move, Microsoft aims to streamline its AI services, focusing on providing a more cohesive user experience while still encouraging users to explore alternative options for discontinued features.
