Missing Missouri Deputy Attorney General Rescued After Six-Day Search in Wyoming

After an extensive six-day search, Shaun Mackelprang, a deputy attorney general from Missouri, has been safely located in Wyoming's Wind River Range. Mackelprang, 55, embarked on a hike from the Green River Lakes Trailhead on August 20 but failed to return, prompting a significant rescue operation.

Authorities confirmed his rescue on Wednesday morning near Scott Lake, where he was found disoriented and dehydrated. The Sublette County Sheriff's Office utilized drones and helicopters during the search, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

Romel Mackelprang, Shaun's brother, expressed relief and a bit of humor, stating, "I'm going to kick him in the butt when I get back with him" and emphasized that his brother should never hike alone again. The family had initially expected Shaun to return by Saturday but grew increasingly concerned when he did not check in.

Missouri Attorney General Catherine L. Hanaway shared her gratitude on social media, highlighting the efforts of the rescue teams and expressing relief over Shaun's safety. Romel noted that they are still uncertain about the details of Shaun's ordeal during the days he was missing, but they are just thankful he made it back alive.
