Indian fintech firm Navi, founded by Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal, has successfully raised $100 million from Prosus, marking its first institutional funding round. The investment values the eight-year-old startup at approximately $1.3 billion.
Navi, which offers various financial services such as lending and digital payments, is gearing up for a potential public offering, aiming to raise ₹30 billion (around $314 million). This follows an earlier attempt to launch a $440 million IPO in 2022, which was ultimately shelved due to a downturn in the market.
Bansal established Navi in 2018 after departing from Flipkart prior to its acquisition by Walmart. Since its inception, he has invested significant personal capital into the venture, which he envisions evolving into a full-fledged bank. Currently, Navi’s lending division boasts over ₹130 billion (around $1.4 billion) in assets, and its UPI app ranks fourth in India, processing nearly 947 million transactions worth ₹483.18 billion (about $5.05 billion) in July alone.
Commenting on the investment, Bansal noted that it serves as a strong endorsement of Navi’s mission and highlighted the value of Prosus’s expertise in scaling tech businesses. While he refrained from discussing the company’s valuation, the recent funding is expected to bolster Navi’s growth trajectory ahead of its IPO plans.
