Netflix Fights Back Against Tyra Banks' Defamation Lawsuit

In a bold legal maneuver, Netflix is taking a stand against Tyra Banks’ defamation claims regarding her portrayal in the docuseries, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model. The streaming giant filed a motion on Friday aimed at dismissing the lawsuit Banks initiated in June, arguing that her grievances stem from typical editorial decisions rather than defamatory actions.

Banks has accused Netflix of misrepresenting her views in the series, asserting that her comments were manipulated to craft a misleading narrative. She pointed out that out of a three-and-a-half-hour interview, only 16 minutes were utilized in the final product. However, Netflix’s response highlights that Banks previously agreed to the editing terms, relinquishing any right to review or approve the documentary.

One specific point of contention in Banks’ suit involves her reaction to allegations of sexual assault against contestant Shandi Sullivan, where she claims the editing created misleading implications about her memory of the incident. Netflix counters that their portrayal accurately reflects her recollection.

A spokesperson for Netflix emphasized their commitment to defending the documentary, noting the credibility of directors Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy and asserting that Banks was given ample opportunity to express her side.
