In a playful twist on word association, Ok Go's guitarist, Andy Ross, is back with an updated version of the popular app 'Say the Same Thing.' This engaging game invites players to connect two words, culminating in a shared term that embodies both.
Originally launched in 2013, the app quickly gained traction with over a million downloads in just a week. However, as the band shifted focus, interest waned, leaving behind a devoted fanbase that still reminisces about its charm. Ross frequently receives messages from fans, including a couple who met through the game and later married.
Recognizing the current craze surrounding word games like The New York Times’ Wordle, Ross decided it was time to relaunch his brainchild. “The success of some of the New York Times-style word games reminded us, ‘Hey, we have this really great game that people like,’” he shared.
Originally conceived while on tour, the game served as a creative outlet for Ross and his bandmates during downtime. After its initial success, technical hiccups plagued the app, but this time, Ross and his team are ensuring robust server capabilities to accommodate a larger audience.
The revamped app retains its original concept but introduces exciting features like daily challenges, AI-generated word pairings, and enhanced multiplayer modes, allowing more than two players to join in. With these updates, Ross hopes 'Say the Same Thing' will foster connections, spark laughter, and serve as a fun mental break.
In an exciting twist, fans may even challenge Ross and his bandmates to games within the app, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to this already delightful experience.
