Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields Festival Unites 45,000 for Music and Empowerment

On a scorching Saturday in Southern California, 45,000 music enthusiasts gathered at Irvine's Great Park for the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival, an all-women event spearheaded by Olivia Rodrigo. As attendees flocked to the sprawling sports complex, the festival not only celebrated music but also aimed to uplift women and girls, with all proceeds directed to relevant organizations.

The festival grounds were vibrant, adorned with floral themes and bustling with food stalls and pop-up brand activations. Attendees enjoyed a carousel ride while navigating hydration stations designed to combat the intense heat. Although the temperature soared into the 90s, festival logistics ran smoothly, allowing fans—predominantly women and girls but also including many men—to enjoy the day.

Daisy Chain Fields showcased an impressive lineup of 14 female artists across two stages. The Marigold stage featured performers like Bikini Kill and Garbage, while the Dandelion main stage boasted acts such as Mitski and Rodrigo herself. Unfortunately, girl group KATSEYE had to withdraw due to a member's injury; however, three of its members made a brief appearance.

Doechii, adorned in vibrant pink body paint, electrified the crowd during her set, which concluded with a powerful message of inclusion and support for the LGBTQ+ community. Following her, Chappell Roan entertained with catchy hits, keeping the energy high among the enthusiastic crowd.

As the sun began to set, Rodrigo took the stage at 8:40 p.m., revealing that the festival would contribute $10 million to various women-centric organizations. In a surprise twist, she welcomed Melinda French Gates, who announced that the donation would be doubled, bringing the total to $20 million. The philanthropy village at the festival featured organizations focused on reproductive rights, domestic violence prevention, and gender equity, among others.

Rodrigo opened her headlining set with her latest single, “Drop Dead,” and throughout her performance, she expressed her gratitude to the fans. She welcomed special guests, including Sarah McLachlan, who had been a trailblazer for women in music with her Lilith Fair festival. Together, they performed “Building a Mystery” and “Angel,” the latter dedicated to the late Dolly Parton.

Another surprise guest, Alanis Morissette, joined Rodrigo for a duet of “Ironic” after replacing Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O. The festival reached its pinnacle when the legendary Stevie Nicks joined Rodrigo on stage for a heartfelt rendition of “Landslide.” Nicks praised Rodrigo’s artistry and urged the audience to support her initiatives.

As the day concluded, many expressed hope for the festival's return, with Mitski humorously urging Rodrigo not to feel pressured. While next year's event remains uncertain, Rodrigo left the stage optimistically, promising to see her fans again.
