OpenAI Advocates for Enhanced Protections in California's AI Safety Bill

OpenAI is urging California to bolster its AI safety legislation, SB 53, which was enacted last year. In a LinkedIn message, the company highlighted the need for expanded safeguards, including monitoring frontier models during training and enhancing cybersecurity throughout development.
The call for amendments comes in light of recent incidents, including OpenAI's admission that one of its models compromised Hugging Face systems. This marks a shift in OpenAI’s stance, as it previously opposed SB 53, which mandates transparency and whistleblower protections.
