OpenAI Gains Ground on Anthropic Among U.S. Businesses, New Data Reveals

By Editor • August 20, 2026 • 1 min read

In an intriguing shift within the AI landscape, OpenAI has started to regain its footing against Anthropic among U.S. business users, according to recent data from Ramp, a corporate credit card and expense management firm.

Back in May, Anthropic eclipsed OpenAI with a 41% market share, leaving OpenAI with 39%. However, by July, Anthropic held nearly 44%, while OpenAI trailed at about 40%. Despite OpenAI's earlier dominance, it has not managed to reclaim its lead since then.

Ramp’s analysis, based on spending patterns from over 70,000 American businesses, indicates that OpenAI is currently experiencing faster growth in Q3 compared to Anthropic, although the quarter still has a month left, making predictions tricky. Ramp economist Ara Kharazian noted that the competitive landscape remains volatile, suggesting that enterprises are not cemented to one provider.

While both companies are expected to grow their business revenue, the overall market for AI is expanding as well. The percentage of companies within Ramp's user base that pay for AI services has surged, climbing from over 50% in March to nearly 56% by July.
