Australia's Swimmers Dominate at Pan Pacific Championships

Australian swimmers Lani Pallister and Sam Short have made headlines at the Pan Pacific Championships in California, demonstrating their potential for the upcoming 2028 Olympics with impressive performances.

Pallister, 24, claimed gold in the 400m freestyle, overcoming American star Katie Ledecky, and previously won the 200m freestyle against Canadian competitor Summer McIntosh. She also showcased her team spirit by contributing to a gold medal in the 200m free relay.

Reflecting on her achievements, Pallister expressed, “It’s been an incredible week… chasing dreams and having fun doing it.” In the men’s division, Short outshone his rivals with a personal best of 3:40.52 in the 400m freestyle, breaking Ian Thorpe’s long-standing Pan Pacific record of 3:41.83.

Short remarked on the significance of his win, stating, “I’ve watched every single one of his races.” He previously secured gold in the 800m freestyle, proving to be a formidable force in the water.

While Ledecky accepted her silver with grace, noting, “I just have a lot of great competition from all over the world right now,” the Australians also saw victory in the men’s 50m breaststroke and 100m butterfly events, further solidifying their prowess at the championships.
