Powerhouse Parramatta Set to Debut in November 2026 with Innovative Exhibitions

Powerhouse Parramatta, a landmark cultural institution in Western Sydney, is scheduled to welcome visitors on November 7, 2026. This ambitious project, led by architect Moreau Kusunoki alongside local firm Genton, promises to redefine the experience of art and science exhibitions.

The opening will feature five diverse exhibitions, including one titled The Mall, created in partnership with the renowned OMA/AMO. This exhibition will explore the evolution and cultural impact of shopping malls, reflecting on their role in shaping social interactions and urban spaces globally.

Architecturally, the museum's design is a striking departure from traditional forms. The building comprises two prominent volumes, enveloped in a distinctive steel exoskeleton that not only supports the structure but also serves as a sun control mechanism. This approach provides a unique visual presence while enhancing energy efficiency, aiming for net-zero emissions from the outset.

Inside, the expansive galleries are designed for flexibility, allowing for a variety of installations without visual disruptions. Large openings and polished concrete floors facilitate light play throughout the day, creating a dynamic atmosphere. Visitors will enjoy a fluid flow through the space, with connections to the cityscape and opportunities for engagement with art and culture.

Beyond exhibition spaces, Powerhouse Parramatta incorporates artist studios, educational facilities linked to the Lang Walker Family Academy, and a kitchen for public culinary programs, embodying a vibrant community hub.
