Prosecutor Insists Maradona Trial Will Proceed Despite Controversial Medical Records

By Editor • August 21, 2026 • 1 min read

In a determined stance, Patricio Ferrari, deputy chief prosecutor for San Isidro, affirmed on Thursday that the ongoing trial regarding Diego Maradona's death will not be derailed by recent revelations concerning medical records. These records, mistakenly attributed to Maradona, actually belong to his father, raising questions about potential criminal misconduct.

Ferrari condemned the actions of those involved, stating, "They deceived us, they committed a crime and now they want to bring down a trial just as it is ending." He characterized the situation as a "continuing offence" that began on January 5, 2021, when the private health provider, Swiss Medical, submitted the disputed documents.

The court has taken action by approving searches of Swiss Medical’s offices and the Olivos Clinic, where Maradona received treatment. This follows the revelation that the medical panel had reviewed the wrong records, which were mistakenly linked to the football legend’s name.

While defence lawyers challenge the validity of the medical panel's report, which criticizes the actions of doctors involved, Ferrari's resolve suggests that the trial's integrity will remain intact.
