In a recent development, the government has announced an increase in fuel prices, effective from September 11. Petrol will now be priced at Rs370.80 per litre, marking a rise of Rs3.05, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will see a hike of Rs5.37, bringing its new price to Rs398.04 per litre.
This price adjustment comes amidst a backdrop of fluctuating global oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly following the US-Iran conflict. The current prices reflect significant increases from earlier this year, with petrol peaking at Rs458.41 and diesel reaching Rs520.35 in April.
The Petroleum Division's notification highlights that taxes and duties continue to play a substantial role in the pricing structure, with Rs114 per litre for petrol and Rs100 for diesel. Fuel prices have been a focal point for the government, especially as the petroleum minister announced a shift to daily price adjustments to better align with international market trends.
