Search and rescue operations are underway in Nepal and Tibet as the aftermath of devastating floods leaves nearly 2,000 individuals unaccounted for. Rescuers face challenging conditions, including treacherous terrain and ongoing threats of additional flooding.
In a heart-wrenching instance, a mother, Matti Maya Tamang, was reunited with her eight-year-old son, Zoyal Ghale, who had climbed a tree to escape the waters. Despite his injuries—a broken leg and facial cuts—his recovery brings a glimmer of hope amidst widespread despair. UNICEF reports that over 17,000 children have been affected across several districts.
Meanwhile, in Tibet, the situation is equally dire, with at least 558 people missing, including 260 foreign nationals. The first rescue teams reached the hardest-hit areas two days after a significant mudslide struck. With the search complicated by heavy rains, Chinese authorities have mobilized multiple teams, including search dogs, to assist in the rescue efforts.
