Russian Publishers Scale Back Amid Warehouse Attacks

By Editor • August 21, 2026 • 1 min read

In the wake of drone strikes on Wildberries warehouses by Ukrainian forces, Russian publishers are significantly adjusting their operations. Major retail chains have reported that some publishers have ceased new print runs altogether.

Boris Kuznetsov, general director of Rosman, stated, “The print runs we planned to sell to cover our costs went up in flames,” highlighting the impact of these strikes on the industry. Eksmo-AST also noted a slight reduction in its August release plans compared to last year, with potential further adjustments based on market demand.

Alpina has opted for smaller reprint runs to manage storage space, though it remains committed to releasing new titles. Reports indicate that storing books in marketplace warehouses has become perilous, leading to concerns over available storage options.

Since mid-July, Ukrainian forces have targeted Wildberries' warehouses, leading to an estimated loss of over 11 million books, primarily fiction and children’s literature, causing significant financial damage to the marketplace.
