Schlitz Beer Makes a Nostalgic Comeback with a Classic Brew
By Editor • August 28, 2026 • 1 min read
Schlitz, once hailed as the quintessential "working (wo)man's" beer, has made a fleeting return to the market. With its roots tracing back to 1849, this iconic beverage was long considered a staple in dive bars, particularly in Texas, where it was appreciated for its affordability and ice-cold refreshment.
After Pabst announced the discontinuation of Schlitz following 177 years, beer enthusiasts were left mourning the loss of a piece of American brewing history. However, in May 2026, the Wisconsin Brewing Company stepped in to revive the spirit of Schlitz by crafting a special 80-barrel batch using brewing records from 1948.
Brewmaster Kirby Nelson utilized these vintage records to recreate the beer's "Golden Age". The result is a clean, crisp brew characterized by a nutty, malty flavor and a refreshing finish—far richer than the watered-down versions often served in bars. Limited to five four-packs per buyer, the new batch quickly sold out, but fans can still join the waitlist for future releases. While Schlitz has had its ups and downs over the decades, this final brew serves as a nostalgic nod to its storied past.
