Sergio Gor's Visit to J&K and Ladakh Emphasizes Strengthening U.S.-India Relations

U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, recently completed a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh, underscoring the strengthening ties between the U.S. and India.

During his stay, Gor engaged in discussions with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and tourism opportunities. The U.S. embassy highlighted the significance of this visit as a demonstration of growing partnership through cultural dialogue.

While a planned meeting with the Dalai Lama did not materialize for unspecified reasons, Gor did explore local culture by visiting the Thiksey Monastery, one of Ladakh's largest. His remarks affirming J&K's importance to India indicate a shift in the U.S. stance on the region, traditionally viewed as a contentious issue between India and Pakistan.
