Shanghai's Robot Carnival Showcases the Future of Humanoids

By Editor • August 25, 2026 • 1 min read

In a vibrant showcase of innovation, a robot carnival in Shanghai drew families eager to explore the latest in humanoid technology. Set against a backdrop of bustling excitement, the event exemplifies China's push to integrate artificial intelligence into everyday life, a key component of the nation’s five-year strategy.

Among the highlights was a mini robotic dog, the object of an 11-year-old boy's excitement, demonstrating the playful side of robotics. The carnival, located near a hub housing over 100 robotics companies, allowed visitors to interact with a variety of robots, from those demonstrating practical skills to others engaging in entertaining shows.

As children learned to navigate a quadrupedal robot up stairs and cheered on remote-controlled bots in water bead battles, the carnival proved to be both educational and thrilling. “These machines can free people from physical work,” said Yang Duan, a product manager at DexForce, which showcased a coffee-making humanoid.

Despite challenges such as high costs and safety concerns, Chinese firms are undeterred, showcasing advancements in humanoid designs. Other cities are also embracing this trend; in Beijing, bipedal robots recently ran half-marathons. The carnival's atmosphere was electric, with spectators chanting for more as humanoids performed martial arts and acrobatics on stage, reflecting the growing acceptance and fascination with robotic technology.
