In its fourth weekend, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to soar at the box office, outpacing new releases like Insidious: Out of the Further and Mutiny. The latest installment from Sony Pictures raked in $9.8 million on Friday and is projected to finish the weekend with approximately $36.5 million, pushing its domestic total to a remarkable $852.4 million.
This impressive performance not only secures its place as the third highest-grossing film of all time domestically, surpassing 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, but also makes it Sony's top domestic release ever, following a record-setting previous weekend.
Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth chapter in the horror franchise, opened in second place with $10.6 million on Friday, anticipating a total of around $23.7 million for its debut weekend. Despite a C+ CinemaScore, the film, which stars Amelia Eve and Lin Shaye, has garnered a 60% approval rating from critics.
Joining the box office fray is Mutiny, featuring Jason Statham, which secured $2.8 million on Friday and is expected to reach about $7.4 million for the weekend. The film, made with a budget of $40 million, has received a B+ CinemaScore from audiences, reflecting a positive reception.
The competition for the weekend’s top spots also includes Universal’s The Odyssey, which is projected to earn $18.5 million, bringing its total to $538 million. Meanwhile, the dinosaur-themed The End of Oak Street is expected to earn around $8 million, vying for fourth place with PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie.
As this weekend's box office unfolds, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains a formidable force, solidifying its legacy in cinema history.
