This weekend, Spider-Man: Brand New Day aims to maintain its impressive box office streak as it faces competition from the horror sequel Insidious: Out of the Further and Jason Statham's action film Mutiny.
Insidious: Out of the Further, directed by Jacob Chase, opens in approximately 3,000 theaters across North America, with early projections estimating an opening weekend of around $23 million. This sixth installment in the Insidious franchise features a cast including Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea, and Lin Shaye, and revolves around a mother who can bring spirits into the real world. The film has garnered a 65 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Meanwhile, Mutiny, helmed by Jean-François Richet, is set to debut in roughly 2,700 locations. Tracking indicates it may open in the high single-digit millions, with a production budget of $40 million and a 49 percent approval score from critics. Statham is no stranger to the box office, having previously starred in Shelter and A Working Man.
Despite the competition, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is projected to secure its fourth consecutive weekend at the top of the box office, recently surpassing $800 million domestically, and is on track to become the third highest-grossing film in North America.
