Spurs' Struggles Continue as De Zerbi Remains Calm Amidst Poor Start

Tottenham Hotspur's manager Roberto de Zerbi is taking a measured approach despite his team's disheartening start to the Premier League season, which finds them at the bottom of the table after two consecutive defeats. Following a 2-0 loss to Newcastle, De Zerbi expressed his lack of anger and insisted that there was no need for panic among players and fans.

The match saw Newcastle score twice in a ten-minute span during the second half, courtesy of Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa. The defeat left a significant portion of the home crowd disillusioned, with many opting to leave the stadium early. Spurs' recent home performance has been particularly troubling, with only three wins in their last 23 league matches at their impressive venue.

After narrowly avoiding relegation at the end of last season, Spurs had high hopes for a turnaround, especially after investing over £300 million in new players this summer. The acquisitions included midfielders Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, defender Jan Paul van Hecke, and winger Savio. However, despite these investments, Spurs have yet to score a goal this season, sitting at a dismal 20th in the league.

De Zerbi remarked on the team's performance, suggesting the result was unjust and asserting, "We are disappointed for the result and our fans." He acknowledged the need for improvement in defensive play but highlighted that his team performed better than Newcastle until conceding the first goal. The manager remains optimistic, stating, "Forget the result… I am not angry; we are working well and were unlucky today with the result." He emphasized the importance of building the team's connection and focusing on improvement.

Former goalkeeper Joe Hart was less optimistic, noting the frustration among Spurs supporters who are left questioning the team's direction. He contrasted Spurs' situation with that of Newcastle, who have successfully navigated significant changes and are clearly following a coherent strategy. Hart pointed out that Tottenham is struggling to find their identity, raising concerns about the pressure that comes with integrating numerous new players.

As the transfer window nears its close, De Zerbi is still looking to add one more player to his squad. He addressed rumors surrounding the potential departures of Kevin Danso, Pape Matar Sarr, and Richarlison, stating that any outgoing transfers would need to be financially beneficial for the club. De Zerbi, who took over in March, understands that fixing the team's long-standing issues will not happen overnight, emphasizing the need for patience and hard work on the training ground.
