Steve Ballmer Cleared of Major Violations in Kawhi Leonard Investigation

By Editor • August 17, 2026 • 1 min read

Recent reports indicate that NBA owner Steve Ballmer has not been found guilty of any significant violations regarding his alleged payments to player Kawhi Leonard. Following an investigation initiated last September, the league, in collaboration with the prestigious law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, has discovered no evidence implicating Ballmer in circumventing salary-cap regulations.

The inquiry stemmed from claims made by podcaster Pablo Torre, who suggested that Leonard's no-show marketing deal with the now-defunct bank Aspiration allowed for under-the-table payments exceeding legal salary limits. While Ballmer acknowledged a partnership with Aspiration, he denied any involvement in questionable arrangements.

Despite the NBA’s findings easing concerns regarding major infractions, the investigation continues as officials examine whether Ballmer may have breached rules related to endorsement facilitation for players. While the league's latest update brings a sigh of relief for Ballmer, the situation remains fluid, and further scrutiny is expected.
