The Japan Times has revealed the recipients of the Sustainable Japan Award 2026, celebrating innovative approaches to fostering a sustainable society. This year marks the eighth iteration of the award, which highlights excellence in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Satoyama categories.

Founded in 2019, the award aims to honor various initiatives from companies, organizations, local governments, and individuals that contribute to social and environmental improvements. A thorough evaluation process involving the Sustainable Japan Network’s advisers ensures that winners reflect the best practices in sustainability.

This year’s nominees showcased a diverse range of projects that tackle pressing ESG issues and leverage local resources and cultural heritage for sustainable development. The winning entries exemplify a commitment to transforming societal challenges into opportunities for creating new value.

The awards ceremony is set for September 29 at the International House of Japan in Minato Ward, Tokyo, featuring panel discussions and talks with representatives from the winning entities. Esteemed judges from various fields, including Michiyo Morisawa and Naonori Kimura, will also participate in the discussions.
