SXSW 2027: Film Premieres Relocate as Podcast Festival Joins Lineup

By Editor • August 18, 2026 • 1 min read

The 2027 SXSW Film and TV festival will see significant changes as Austin's Paramount Theatre undergoes renovations, leading to a shift in film premieres to ACL Live. This transition is temporary, with plans to return to the iconic Paramount in 2028.

Renowned for its historic marquee, the Paramount typically serves as the heart of the festival, showcasing major film premieres. While SXSW has other locations for screenings, this change underscores the ongoing evolution of the festival's venue landscape. The Austin Convention Center was also repurposed in 2025, and the festival adapted its programming accordingly.

Additionally, SXSW will introduce a podcast festival from March 17-21, 2027. This new segment aims to spotlight the growing podcasting community with live events featuring industry leaders. Greg Rosenbaum, SVP of programming, emphasized the festival's commitment to fostering discovery and creativity, noting an impressive 50% increase in submissions for panels and festival applications for next year. The festival will run from March 15-21, 2027, with badges currently available for purchase.
