Unitree Robotics Unveils Superhuman Robot and Surges to a $51 Billion Valuation

Unitree Robotics has made waves in the tech world with the launch of its remarkable humanoid robot, named Superman, which recently showcased its astonishing abilities by jumping 6.6 feet and sprinting at 28.3 mph. This headless marvel outpaces even the legendary Usain Bolt, who holds the record for the fastest human at 27.78 mph. The demonstration was captured in a striking 30-second video posted on Weibo on August 17, just days before the company went public on Shanghai’s stock exchange.

On August 19, Unitree’s stock skyrocketed, initially reaching $163.66, representing a staggering 629% increase over its offer price. Although it closed the day valued at approximately $50.8 billion, this marks a significant achievement for a robotics company, with only one comparable instance in recent history—UBTech, valued at $4.9 billion during its IPO in December 2023.

Founded by Wang Xingxing, Unitree Robotics is positioning itself at the forefront of the burgeoning field of embodied artificial intelligence. As China intensifies its focus on robotics as a key sector for future economic growth, it is predicted that the country will command nearly 90% of the global humanoid robot market by 2025, outpacing U.S. competitors like Tesla and Agility Robotics.

Superman’s design emphasizes athleticism, featuring legs measuring 2.8 feet in height, optimized for speed and stride length, while lacking hands or a head. Unitree describes Superman as an experimental platform aimed at studying dynamic movements and claims the design was accomplished in just over three months. However, specifics regarding its weight, battery capacity, and production timeline remain undisclosed.

The timing of the Superman reveal coincided with Unitree's IPO, generating immense interest among investors; demand for shares exceeded available supply by more than 8,000 times. The company's sales are on an upswing, with a reported 68.5% year-over-year increase in the first quarter of 2026, and a production milestone of 18,000 bipedal humanoids by July.

In a striking demonstration of capabilities, Wang Xingxing showcased another robot, the GD01, which is a transformable mecha, further establishing Unitree’s reputation for innovation. With significant investments in the embodied AI space from various companies, the landscape suggests a rapidly evolving industry poised for growth.
