Alex Bores Unveils $30 Million Initiative to Rally Democrats on AI Regulation

In a bold move to address the rising concerns over artificial intelligence, New York Assemblymember Alex Bores has launched a $30 million initiative aimed at uniting Democrats around a comprehensive regulatory framework for AI. The organization, dubbed “Who Decides,” is set to officially launch on Tuesday, positioning itself as a key player in shaping the party's stance on AI safety by 2028.

The newly established group, which promises to eschew corporate donations, aims to forge a unified Democratic agenda addressing the potential dangers posed by unregulated AI technologies. According to the mission statement on its website, “Who Decides” will focus on the economic, democratic, and safety risks associated with increasingly powerful AI systems. The initiative comes at a time of heightened urgency as AI has emerged as a major political issue, with both parties seeking to establish a coherent policy approach.

With Bores at the helm, alongside former chief of staff Anna Myers, the organization plans to target 11 pivotal states in the lead-up to the 2028 elections. These states include South Carolina, Nevada, and Michigan, among others. The group will conduct regular polling and collaborate with local organizations to amplify its message. Bores, who previously ran a campaign centered on AI regulation, believes there is a significant public demand for a cohesive AI policy, despite the current disarray among political factions.
