Arrest Made in Deceptive Fundraising Scheme Targeting Animal Charity

By Editor • September 6, 2026 • 1 min read

In a troubling incident that unfolded during a charity event in Hong Kong, authorities have detained a man linked to a fraudulent scheme that exploited the goodwill of animal lovers. The scam involved at least 14 individuals posing as legitimate fundraisers, attempting to collect donations for the Hong Kong Saving Cat and Dog Association.

The police investigation revealed that these impostors were seen carrying counterfeit donation bags and mingling with actual volunteers on the charity's flag day, a fundraising initiative sanctioned by the Social Welfare Department. This event saw approximately 800 registered volunteers actively participating to raise funds for the welfare of cats and dogs.

As the scheme came to light, the swift response from law enforcement not only led to the arrest of the suspect but also highlighted the need for vigilance among donors to ensure their contributions reach the intended cause.
