Hong Kong Mulls Genetic Testing in Response to Fighting Dog Concerns

In light of rising apprehensions surrounding the classification of fighting dogs, Hong Kong's conservation officials are exploring the use of DNA testing to aid in breed identification. This move comes after enforcement actions targeting suspected fighting dogs prompted public outcry.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) announced on Thursday that current owners of fighting dogs would be allowed to keep their pets as long as they adhere to legal requirements. They also emphasized the importance of not abandoning these animals.

Michelle Yeung Lee, the principal official at the department, stated that this genetic testing could serve as a valuable supplementary method for breed verification.
