In a vibrant blend of artistry and compassion, the African Tails Art Auction is set to take place on September 17 at the Erik & Claude Foundation in Bo-Kaap, Cape Town. This annual event brings together esteemed artists from South Africa, with proceeds aimed at enhancing animal welfare initiatives across the region.
The auction features contributions from notable artists such as Wilma Cruise, Galia Gluckman, and Georgina Gratrix, among others. This year’s event is particularly significant as it marks the 20th anniversary of African Tails, an organization dedicated to the care of neglected and vulnerable pets throughout the city.
Supporting Animal Welfare Initiatives
All funds raised during the auction will directly support African Tails’ extensive programs, which encompass rescue, rehabilitation, feeding, and sterilization of dogs and cats. Since its inception in 2006, African Tails has achieved remarkable milestones, sterilizing over 18,000 animals and rehoming more than 2,900.
Co-founder Yael Sacks emphasizes the importance of education in their mission. "African Tails creates lasting change through mass sterilization and pet care education in under-resourced communities," she stated. The organization aims to instill a sense of responsibility and empathy among community members, which can lead to broader life skills beyond animal care.
A Celebration of Art and Community
The auction not only serves as a vital fundraiser but also as a celebration of two decades of tireless work by African Tails. Sacks expressed gratitude for the artists' contributions, which make the event both a fun social gathering and a meaningful opportunity to support pets in need.
Tickets for the in-person auction are priced at R100 and can be purchased via African Tails' website or social media platforms. For those unable to attend, online bidding will be available until September 30, allowing a wider audience to participate in this noble cause.
