Auger-Aliassime Shocked by Early Exit at US Open Amid Health Concerns

By Editor • September 3, 2026 • 1 min read

In a surprising turn of events at the US Open, third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in the second round by unseeded Karen Khachanov. The match concluded with a score of 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, marking a significant upset for the Canadian tennis star.

Auger-Aliassime, who has previously made it to the semi-finals of this prestigious tournament, revealed that he began feeling unwell early in the match. "After a set and a half, I just couldn’t feel well and was dizzy and seeing spots and couldn’t recover," he stated post-match. The 26-year-old athlete noted that he had never experienced such symptoms before a match, and despite hoping it would pass, he was unable to regain his form.

The challenging playing conditions, with temperatures soaring to 30°C in New York after a stretch of rain, appeared to impact other players as well. Lorenzo Musetti, the 13th seed, faced a similar fate, losing to Australian wildcard Dane Sweeny. Auger-Aliassime's defeat follows the shocking exit of fourth seed Novak Djokovic in the first round, who expressed his discontent about his performance on the court. Khachanov extended his well wishes to Auger-Aliassime, suggesting that physical issues are an unfortunate aspect of competitive sports.
