Azra Hirji, an illustrator known for her vibrant works featured on her Substack, In The Filing Cabinet, is dedicated to immortalizing her family's culinary traditions through art. Hirji admires her mother and aunts' unique table settings, often adapting to what ingredients they have at hand. The influence of her late father, who was the family's cook, resonates deeply with her creations. She fondly recalls his legendary lentil daar, which she recently celebrated in her Substack, describing it as an embodiment of food, migration, and memory.

Dividing her time among Lisbon, London, and Toronto presents challenges, including navigating various time zones, but Hirji embraces the experience. She feels a sense of belonging in each city, despite the complexities of freelance life. "I was so proud to respond with a confident yes" when asked if she really draws for a living, she shares, reaffirming her love for illustration as the most fulfilling aspect of her life.
