A somber commemoration took place in Belgrade on Saturday to honor the late Ratko Mladic, a controversial figure known for his role in the Bosnian War. The event drew a gathering of former military personnel, family members, and officials, all paying their respects just two days before his burial.
Mladic, who passed away last week at the age of 84, had been serving a life sentence in The Hague for war crimes committed during the 1990s conflict. His declining health had been evident, as he suffered several strokes prior to his death.
The Serbian government arranged for his body to be transported back to Serbia on Thursday. Upon arrival, Mladic's casket, adorned with national flags, was met with military honors, reflecting the divisive legacy he leaves behind.
