By Editor • September 7, 2026 • 1 min read

In a significant development for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) railway, officials have announced the successful completion of a major tunnel, marking a pivotal step forward for this long-awaited infrastructure project.

The tunnel, stretching 210 meters (approximately 690 feet), is the first to be constructed in the Kyrgyz section since extensive work commenced in June 2025. This accomplishment was unveiled shortly after Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Kyrgyzstan, highlighting the project's importance within Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative.

This railway aims to create a crucial trade route that circumvents Russia, offering China a more direct pathway to Central Asia and enhancing regional connectivity.
