Cone Denim to Cease Operations in China, Focus on Mexico

Cone Denim is set to become a solely Mexico-based manufacturer by the end of 2026, as the company announces its decision to close its Chinese operations. This strategic shift aims to enhance its focus on its established manufacturing site in Mexico, where it currently operates mills in Parras and Yecapixtla.
The company cited a thorough review of global denim market conditions and internal factors as reasons for this transition, pointing to geopolitical challenges and shifts in customer sourcing strategies that have hindered its Chinese mill's competitiveness.
Steve Maggard, president of Cone Denim, acknowledged the difficulty of this decision but emphasized that it is essential for the company's long-term success. He reassured stakeholders that customer service and product quality would remain priorities throughout the transition process.
Cone Denim operates under Elevate Textiles, Inc., with significant sales and product teams based in key U.S. cities. Following a recent acquisition by Pakistan-based Artistic Milliners, Cone has committed to leveraging its Mexican operations for future denim production.
CEO Jeffrey P. Pritchett highlighted the importance of this transformation for Cone’s strategic objectives, ensuring that the company remains competitive in a rapidly changing market. The focus will now shift entirely to Mexico, which Cone believes will provide a robust foundation for continued service and innovation.
