Another devastating fire broke out at the historic Dalton Mills in Keighley on Saturday evening, marking the fifth significant blaze at the site in just five years. The Grade II listed mill, renowned for its appearances in popular series such as Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey, has experienced a series of unfortunate incidents that have drawn the ire of local officials.
The latest fire prompted a swift response from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS), which advised residents to steer clear of the area due to safety concerns. Emergency services also evacuated several nearby homes to protect residents from potential harm as the flames raged.
Political Outcry and Safety Concerns
Robbie Moore, the Member of Parliament for Keighley and Ilkley, expressed his frustration over the repeated incidents at the mill. In a video shared on X, he stated, “You already will have seen that we have had another major fire in the centre of Keighley, which is deeply infuriating. I’ve been calling on our local authority to secure this site as best as possible for years now, and this is our next major fire.”
A Pattern of Destruction
The history of fires at Dalton Mills is troubling. The site has been subjected to multiple destructive events, including an arson attack in 2011 and a blaze in 2022 that devastated the building's interior. Further incidents in 2025 and two deliberate fires in February 2026 have compounded concerns about the site's safety and security.
