Understanding Endometriosis

New Diagnostic Approaches

While new diagnostic tests have emerged in other countries, such as the EndoSure and Endotest, they have yet to be approved in the United States. EndoSure measures electrical signals in the gut to detect endometriosis, while Endotest analyzes saliva for specific microRNAs. Both tests aim to expedite diagnosis, making it easier for patients to receive appropriate treatment sooner. Experts caution, however, that these tests will not replace traditional methods but could provide valuable insights when used alongside them.

Living with Endometriosis

Armstrong's path to treatment included excision surgery to remove endometriosis lesions, and she now advocates for awareness among students about women's health issues. Experts stress the importance of tracking symptoms and advocating for oneself during medical visits. "You don’t have to live in pain," Dr. Drorit Or from Mount Sinai West reassures young women. With a proper diagnosis, patients can explore various treatment options, from hormonal therapies to pain management strategies, allowing them to lead fulfilling lives despite the challenges of the disease.
