Robert Pattinson Addresses Chris Hansen's Concerns at 'Primetime' Press Conference

Pattinson, who stars as Hansen and is also a producer on the project, acknowledged the mixed reactions Hansen has had regarding the film's portrayal. He remarked, “I never really set out to make a movie about Chris Hansen. I never really thought about it, and then I saw [Ajon Singh’s] script, and there’s something electrifying about it.” He added that he sees Hansen’s character as an inspiration, hoping the film serves as a compliment to him.

Director Lance Oppenheim shared his journey of discovering 'To Catch a Predator' through parodies and expressed his fascination with Hansen's persona. He described Hansen as a “mythological being” whose infamous lines have left a lasting impact, noting, “The idea of a man who became a myth… I thought that would make for such an interesting film.” Oppenheim highlighted the challenge of balancing the serious subject matter with the viral nature of Hansen's image.

As the film prepares for its theatrical release on September 25, Pattinson reflected on how his role has already sparked interest and memes, comparing it to the quotable movies of his youth. He noted the cultural shift from memorable movie lines to memes, stating, “I quite like that.” With a busy schedule ahead, including filming for 'The Batman' and other projects, Pattinson humorously acknowledged the quick transition to his next role, alluding to the lingering influence of Hansen's character.
