Ex-ADFA Cadet Charged with Over 260 Offenses for Secretly Filming Women

Tain Stephens, a former cadet at the Australian Defence Force Academy, is facing a staggering total of more than 260 charges related to the alleged secret filming of female cadets in a bathroom.
During a court hearing on Tuesday, it was revealed that the 20-year-old is accused of using a hidden camera disguised as a soap dispenser to capture intimate footage of his peers. The charges against him include five counts of capturing intimate visual data, with additional charges added since his initial appearance in May and July.
Among the new allegations are serious offenses such as possessing child abuse material and transmitting sexual material without consent. Prosecutor James Malloy indicated that these charges stem from the same incidents, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Court documents revealed that over 40,000 files were located on Stephens' devices, with police suggesting that further investigations could uncover more victims.
Currently, Stephens, who is no longer associated with the Australian Defence Force, remains on bail in Queensland. His lawyer has requested a 10-week period to prepare for the case, and the court has agreed to allow him to appear via video link in a subsequent hearing set for November.
