Glass Sculpture Transforms Classic Knot into a Light-Emitting Artwork

Francois Hurtaud's latest creation, Noeuds Marins, reimagines the figure-eight knot as a stunning glass light sculpture. This limited-edition piece captures a childhood memory from Brittany, where the designer first learned to tie the knot, and transforms it into a permanent, illuminated object.

The sculpture exudes a unique charm as it casts intricate, moving shadows on surrounding walls, influenced by the viewer's vantage point and ambient light. While the knot remains fixed in glass, its shadow dances and shifts, enhancing the dynamic interaction between the sculpture and its environment.

Developed through extensive manual experimentation with rope, Hurtaud meticulously translated the knot's geometry into a three-dimensional form using modeling and casting techniques across workshops in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. Each piece is distinct, merging solid craftsmanship with the ephemeral qualities of light.
