Alissa Zachary's LA-based fashion label, High Sport, is set to make its mark at New York Fashion Week for the first time, unveiling a digital lookbook for Spring 2027. This move signifies a crucial step for a brand that has thrived primarily on word-of-mouth marketing, with no prior fashion shows or press events.
In a recent interview at High Sport’s West Hollywood showroom, Zachary expressed her excitement about expanding the brand's presence and community. Over the past five years, High Sport has grown from a niche label known for its $860 cropped kick-flare pants into a business poised for further retail and category expansion. “We have not even scratched the surface, which is exciting, because we have so much potential,” she remarked.
Innovative Designs and Inspirations
The upcoming collection, styled by Vanessa Reid and photographed by Sam Penn, captures the essence of High Sport’s journey into the fashion spotlight with a candid, behind-the-scenes aesthetic. Highlights include a sultry take on the classic black dress, a perfectly tailored jacket, and vibrant hot pants that reflect an effortless blend of LA surf culture and urban street style.
Zachary drew inspiration from 1960s and 70s Italian textiles and Japanese artist Yu Kobayashi's daisy motifs, aiming to enhance the brand's design vocabulary. “The way that we’ve expanded is by adding new styles and fabrications beyond knits,” she explained, indicating a shift from their original capsule wardrobe concept.
Solid Growth and Community Engagement
High Sport has seen impressive sales growth, boasting over 75 wholesale accounts, including notable partnerships with Nordstrom. As e-commerce continues to rise, Zachary emphasizes the importance of trunk shows as a way to connect directly with customers. These shows have been hosted in exclusive locations and have become a key strategy for customer acquisition.
With plans to transform her showroom into a shoppable space and expand trunk shows to new cities, Zachary is focused on building a community around High Sport. “For me to be able to interact with the customer face to face, there’s no substitute for that,” she stated, highlighting her commitment to customer experience and brand growth.
