In an exciting showcase of creativity and heritage, designer Campillo unveiled his latest collection during New York Fashion Week at the Downtown Manhattan Heliport on Sunday. Despite an early morning deluge, the skies cleared just in time, illuminating a collection that drew inspiration from the colors of sunrises and sunsets.
Titled “In Medias Res,” which translates to “into the middle of things,” this collection marks Campillo's fifth season at the prestigious fashion event. He aimed to capture a sense of nostalgia, reflecting on the beauty that surrounds us. The result was a vibrant array of soft pinks, yellows, and burnt oranges, seen across a variety of garments, including bell-bottom pants, short-shorts, and flowing shirts.
Highlights of the collection included unique artisan-crafted silver and onyx buttons and cuffs, which celebrated Campillo's Mexican roots. Horsehair trims adorned many pieces, evolving from mere decoration to integral elements of the silhouettes. A standout item was a silk dupion cropped jacket, distinguished by its textured fabric, while a matching cropped jacket and bell-bottom ensemble—crafted from a biological polymer that mimicked leather—turned heads for its innovative design. Vintage T-shirts featuring Campillo's name and famous logos like McDonald's added a playful touch to the collection.
In addition to the fashion, the show also introduced Campillo’s collaboration with Tequila Don Julio, featuring a special 70 Anego Cristalino Artist Edition Bottle. Designed to honor Dia de Muertos, this limited-edition bottle served as a poignant symbol of connection between the living and the departed. As the event progressed, guests enjoyed flowing tequila while celebrating the impressive blend of tradition and modernity that defined Campillo's latest work.
