Hong Kong is positioning itself as a vital ally in fostering economic development in Central Asia, as emphasized by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu during a recent virtual conference.
Speaking at the South China Morning Post’s China Conference: Central Asia 2026, Lee highlighted the significant achievements resulting from his earlier visit to the region. He noted that a bank involved in his June delegation has committed a substantial US$785 million to the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, underscoring Hong Kong’s dedication to strengthening economic ties.
Lee's remarks come as part of a broader strategy to elevate Central Asia's status as a global economic powerhouse, with Hong Kong eager to play a pivotal role in this transformation.
