A Personal Vision for a Shared Space

The journey to creating Crescendo began with a woman who yearned to return to her childhood land, previously occupied by an outdated 1950s house. Unlike typical renovations that merely add extra rooms, this project was rooted in nostalgia and a desire for a new vision. The design incorporates a creekside lot, providing a tranquil backdrop that connects the past with the present.

Thoughtful Layout Encourages Independence

The home’s layout is a masterclass in architectural choreography. It features a shared entry that splits into two distinct living spaces: one for the couple and another for the wife's sister. This clever design ensures privacy and independence, allowing family members to coexist without intruding on one another's lives. Here, comings and goings are seamless, eliminating the need for constant explanations.

Emphasizing Light and Space

One of the most striking elements of Crescendo is its innovative use of light. Custom trapezoidal clerestory windows, developed in collaboration with Marvin, soar high on the creek side and taper toward the street, creating a dynamic interplay of light throughout the day. Awes describes the house as a sundial, with sunlight marking the passage of time for all generations inhabiting the space.

Additionally, the home’s design honors personal treasures, such as an heirloom grand piano that enjoys its own dedicated room, emphasizing the home's commitment to valuing each family member's needs.
